Anatomy and Physiology 2

We have talked in general about all the body systems and the general effects that massage has on the body systems. Last time we covered the immune system and spoke a little bit about the lymph system. If you missed class, please find someone who has the notes from the power point!

Advanced Therapuetic Massage

Last time we covered chair massage and talked about the marketing tools that are used for chair massage. We also started talking about infant massage and will be preparing to start infant massage next time. I will be bringing my nephew for massage and the students are welcome to bring any babies they know.

Deep Tissue

We have finished disc 1 and are now working on disc 2 which talks about the different tools and starts in on strokes. We are looking for the softening of tissue or the "melt" of the muscles. The correct use of forearms, elbows, knuckles, fist and fingers takes some time to master and also the degree at which the work is performed. General practise and experimental use of deep tissue therapies are the assignments at this time.

Fundamentals of Natural Health

We have been talking about the triad of health: body, mind and spirit. We are right now focusing on self-image and the differences in between the western and eastern thought methods. Other topics that will be covered include nutrition, cranial sacral, herbalism, and pain theories, inter mitten with energy explanations and interpretations.

Sports Massage

Ok, we are into our second week of the Winter Term, 2007. In Sports Massage, we are now talking about Pre-Event massage and different stretches involved. On Monday, we covered the lower body and started our Yogalites. Assignments due are two articles from the AMTA website about the medical benefits of massage.
Next time we will reviewing the lower leg stretches and starting upper body stretches.

Hot Stone Massage
