Anatomy and Physiology 2

We have talked in general about all the body systems and the general effects that massage has on the body systems. Last time we covered the immune system and spoke a little bit about the lymph system. If you missed class, please find someone who has the notes from the power point!

Advanced Therapuetic Massage

Last time we covered chair massage and talked about the marketing tools that are used for chair massage. We also started talking about infant massage and will be preparing to start infant massage next time. I will be bringing my nephew for massage and the students are welcome to bring any babies they know.

Deep Tissue

We have finished disc 1 and are now working on disc 2 which talks about the different tools and starts in on strokes. We are looking for the softening of tissue or the "melt" of the muscles. The correct use of forearms, elbows, knuckles, fist and fingers takes some time to master and also the degree at which the work is performed. General practise and experimental use of deep tissue therapies are the assignments at this time.

Fundamentals of Natural Health

We have been talking about the triad of health: body, mind and spirit. We are right now focusing on self-image and the differences in between the western and eastern thought methods. Other topics that will be covered include nutrition, cranial sacral, herbalism, and pain theories, inter mitten with energy explanations and interpretations.

Sports Massage

Ok, we are into our second week of the Winter Term, 2007. In Sports Massage, we are now talking about Pre-Event massage and different stretches involved. On Monday, we covered the lower body and started our Yogalites. Assignments due are two articles from the AMTA website about the medical benefits of massage.
Next time we will reviewing the lower leg stretches and starting upper body stretches.

Facials

Today was facial day. We had a blast mixing up the mud and slathering it on! Trust me the results were worth it...smooth, soft skin and a nice glow to match. And hey, I'm down for anything in which i get to slick mud on someone else!

Body Scrubs

This a recap from Thursday. We worked on body scrubs. While it's not the most comfortable modality, it's a heck of a lot of fun! And your skin feels fantastic afterwards...

Pathology/Trigger Point Day

Today in Pathology we reviewed for our midterm on Wednesday. The students were given 2 possible conditions from each chapter (1-6) to review and only one condition will be on the midterm. They also were given the chance to do the instructor evaluations. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say about the class and me as an instructor on how I can improve.
Next is Trigger Point. I enjoy this class so much! I love the book, it's fantastic and the students truly have a desire to learn where the trigger points are. Today we are doing a review of the back muscles, including the glutes and the upper neck and head area. We will review these today and Wednesday, then moving on to the stomach and chest trigger points. Check back tomorrow to see the pics of the Specialized Modalities class as we explore the world of spa treatments and products. Also, we will be doing collages in Business Practices. Each student will create a collage of their unique professional style for their future business. ENJOY!

Massage Therapy

Hello all! For the last three years I have been teaching massage therapy at a local college. I decided that it would be great to start a blog and spotlight current and past students. It will be a great way for pre-graduates and post graduates to be able to keep up on program news and friendships from the past... and maybe the future! I will be posting pictures shortly!
